Contest Rules

Rules for fair play, scoring, tie-breakers, and final contest results.

During Contests

  1. Solve Inside Pahzzles

    Puzzles should be solved entirely inside the Pahzzles puzzle app through its user interface. They should not be solved elsewhere and then copied into Pahzzles.

  2. No Outside Help

    External tools and communication with other people are not allowed for solving contest puzzles. For example, do not use automated solvers or artificial intelligence to help solve puzzles. Also do not discuss anything related to contest puzzles in the site or outside during a contest.

  3. Scoring

    Each puzzle gives its listed points when solved during the contest. Users are ranked by their total number of points.

  4. Tie-Breaker

    Each contest states whether point ties use the time-to-score tie break or have no tie break. The selected tie-breaker is shown on the contest page.

  5. Contest End

    Once the contest ends, no more puzzle solves will affect the contest results. Results remain pending until finalized.

  6. Pearl Rewards

    Finalized contests grant 1 pearl for each distinct solved puzzle. Bonus pearls depend on the contest's tie-breaker.

  7. Special Rewards

    Some contests also grant additional rewards like items or badges; look out for them in the contest page!

Tie-Breakers

  1. Time to Reach Score

    Players are ranked by points, then by the elapsed time from the contest start to reaching that score. Individual per-puzzle solve time does not break ties. First, second, and third place receive 15, 10, and 5 bonus pearls.

  2. No Tie Break

    Players with the same point total share the same rank. Every player in the top three distinct score groups receives 3, 2, or 1 bonus pearls respectively.
